5/1 Dia do Trabalhador/ International Worker’s Day (various locations)

The first day of May is a commemorative holiday for workers around the world. During the 20th century, the working day was fixed at eight hours following strikes regarding working conditions. Susan writes, “The kids were back from school and I am off work, so what better time to go and celebrate together? We visited the Lekki Conservation center, Ice skating arena, and ended the day at the beach- Takwa Bay.”
5/1-2 Eid al-Fitr (various locations)
People gathered at Kaaba, Mecca, Saudi Arabia
One of the two holidays celebrated within Islam, Eid al-Fitr is honored by Muslims around the world to mark the end of the fasting of Ramadan. This holiday is celebrated with prayer, gift-giving and gathering to eat together.
5/8 Dia da Mãe/Mother’s Day (various locations)
Mother’s Day accounts for 24% of all flowers sold annually.
Around the world, people celebrate and honor mothers on this day. In the United States, Mother’s Day was started as a service of worship by Anna Jarvis, a social activist. The International Mother’s Day Shrine was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1992 at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia.
5/26 Kenaikan Isa Almasih/ Feast of the Ascension (various locations)

Feast of the Ascension is a Christian holiday that commemorates the belief of the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven. It is universally recognized by many Christian churches and typically falls 40 days after Easter. The fun part of this holiday, according to our Contributor Rizaldi, is: “gathering with family, especially being able to enjoy holidays with my new child again.”
5/30 Memorial Day (United States)
Memorial Day was made a national holiday in the U.S. in 1971
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States, originally known as Decoration Day, that honors U.S. military personnel who died while in service. It is observed on the last Monday in the month of May. Many people visit memorials or cemeteries to honor and mourn those who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military.
